We are proud that 100% of gaming profits is funding what matters to Nova Scotians, by helping to fund important programs and services including healthcare, roads, schools, cultural industries and sports.

In 2017-18, the Payment to Province was $146.9 million.

We are steadfast in our strong commitment to corporate social responsibility and to proactively represent the public’s best interest in all decision-making.

Our 2017-18 results show that 81% of Nova Scotians support our commitment to responsible gambling behaviors. We believe that if we do our very best in setting this bar high, we will continue to earn the trust of the people to whom we are accountable.

Recently, we returned to our roots as the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC). While our name has changed, our mandate continues to include the conduct and manage function, and ensuring a responsible, accountable and sustainable approach to gaming.

Delivered a comprehensive suite of 11 responsible gambling programs, including working with Atlantic Lottery Corporation to deliver comprehensive Responsible Gambling Training for staff working in the industry. A new training program was created and delivered to all Casino Nova Scotia staff.

Marked the 16th annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, Balance is the Name of the Game. The campaign achieved 100% of its objectives including reaching its goal on the percentage of Nova Scotians that support regulated gambling.

Maintained RG Accreditations at both Casino Nova for their responsible gambling programs.

Contributed to causes important to Nova Scotians through three hallmark community programs.

Support4Sport, a designated ticket lottery program, is making meaningful impacts to sport in the province. Since its inception, the program has contributed over $38 million to support amateur athletes, coaches, officials, and community sport organizations.

The program has far reaching impacts, with over 125,000 Nova Scotians benefiting each year. We were proud to highlight at the first, annual Support4Sport awards in May, 2017;

Another designated lottery program is Support4Culture, which supports arts, culture, and heritage in communities across Nova Scotia.  Introduced in 2013, this program has contributed more than $12 million to date for aspiring and established artists and community arts, culture and heritage organizations;

NSGC supported 14 Monte Carlo nights through the Support4Communities program for a variety of important community causes, including Queens Association for Supported Living in Liverpool, YMCA in Sydney and Port Hawkesbury as well as Special Olympics in New Glasgow and Clare. In total, we helped these 14 organizations raise more than $125,000 for good causes across the province. ‎

Worked with the regulator to offer no-cost seminars for community organizations and volunteers in Sydney, Kentville and Port Hawkesbury. The seminars helped community organizations with their grassroots fundraising efforts, highlighting best practices and responsible gambling tips.

Thrilled Lotto Max fans with 14 Max Million events during the year. 

In total, 13 Atlantic Lottery players won a prize of over $500,000 in 2017-18 right here in Nova Scotia.

Helped innovate the lottery industry through Innovation Outpost, which partnered Atlantic Lottery with Volta Labs in Halifax. The first two projects were piloted in 2017 and included Winvelope (a monthly scratch ticket and lottery subscription service) and Pool Party (a lottery pool manager).

Launched a new suite of digital instant games as well as Daily Grand, Keno Atlantic and more iBingo game options. Improving these features make the games more appealing and engaging for players. Keeping them fun and safe comes first.

Incorporated player feedback to offer high-calibre experiences at both Casino Nova Scotia locations. This included improving food and beverage quality, buffet offerings and specials. Halifax Casino revitalized the Station and a new bar area 3Sixty. The Schooner Showroom was also refreshed and where it hosted six high-level performance acts with exciting new entertainment choices for Nova Scotians to enjoy.

Retired 14 VLTs through attrition. This brings the total number of terminals retired through attrition to 155 since 2011. Additionally, seven new VLT games launched in Nova Scotia with mandatory responsible gambling features.

Accountable

Maintained shareholder and stakeholder support and communications:

Welcomed a full-complement of Board members;
Delivered quarterly, financial and community reports to shareholder;
 
Provided updates on strategic and operational matters to the Minister responsible for Part I of the Gaming Control Act; and,

 

Held regular meetings with Atlantic Lottery and Casino Nova Scotia as well as stakeholder groups

Reported 472 incidents related to Section 24(1)(e) of the Gaming Control Act. Most incidents were resolved through prescribed procedures, while 9 incidents that occurred in the fourth quarter remain open.

 

Oversaw a voluntary recall of Breakopen tickets by Atlantic Lottery in September 2017.

When it comes to the integrity and security of lottery tickets sold in Nova Scotia, we don’t take any chances.

 

Supported Atlantic Lottery’s new website, providing better player experiences and optimizing alc.ca for mobile. This included a new updated App for iOS and a new Android app for players.

Combined the Players Club program with Casino Nova Scotia to improve rewards to players at both locations
